Day 17

Hello everybody!  Today is day 17 of the 28 days of the Fast Metabolism Diet… as I have already mentioned, this diet is supposed to heal your metabolism in 28 days but, every metabolism is different and some have more weight to lose than others so if you haven’t lost all the weight you need to lose in these 28 days you just repeat the whole thing all over again (and as many times as necessary), after that period of time then you can choose to incorporate some ingredients that are not allowed during this process or you can choose that you enjoyed the “feeling of good health” so much that you just “leave them out” … now… if you choose to incorporate some ingredients (like I will, in the case of dairy) the recommendation is to choose the organic kind and to avoid “overdoing” it… so… I will follow those recommendations for sure!

So… my first week on this diet I lost 2 pounds… YAY! … I was all impatient so I weighed myself again before week 2 ended… and I lost 2 more pounds (YAY!!!) so… 4 pounds lost, right? Awesomeness… Then… by the end of week 2 I weighed myself again and it turns out I gained 1.3 pounds so I thought “huh” but didn’t think more of it because I know it’s not that much to even think it’s real weight, it might just be liquid or whatever, right? well… I am midway week 3 and I actually saw the measuring tape move a little bit but not to the right side so I weighed myself and I gained 1.5 more pounds… interesting… So you could say that I have only lost 1.2 pounds total -sigh-… and that’s if the scale doesn’t keep going up…

Anyway… I know I should throw the stupid scale away especially if it is going to affect me… I still trust this method so I am choosing not to care too much about it… some other people in the group have reported weight gain on week 2 as well so I guess I’m not the only one… I am still hopeful about all of this but maybe the fact that I am on P2 (Phase 2) doesn’t help (phase 2 are Wednesdays and Thursdays where the diet gets really hard! but Friday, Saturday and Sunday are amazing so I keep telling myself that it’s just TWO DAYS! JUST TWO DAYS!)

So… I just wanted to give you all an update on how I am doing… I have been doing this to the “T” so I hope it will eventually pay off!

Because she believes me!

Hello everybody, here I am … today is day 9 of the Fast Metabolism Diet 28 day plan! This plan is supposed to heal your metabolism in about 28 days, some people have a slower metabolism than others, some have more or less weight to lose than others… so if by day 28 you’re “not done” you just start all over again… People have asked me “what made me try the Fast Metabolism Diet” and I always say “she believes me” … Allow me to explain: when I heard about this plan I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it because NO DAIRY is allowed… at all… no yogurt, butter, milk (except for rice/almond/coconut milks), kefir, sour cream, cheese, nothing! and I thought I for sure would never even try something that would separate me and dairy! Nothing could ever come between us! NOTHING! but… as I continued to read the book I found something that Haily Pomroy (author of the FMD) said that touched the very depths of my soul … she said: “I believe you!” … She says in her book that some of her customers come to her tired of dieting, skeptic to try something “new” or “opposing what they’ve learned in other diets” etc… and they tell her in frustration how they have REALLY ADHERED to other strict eating plans without any good results… and she says that she believes them … and then she talked to me, the reader, and said: “I believe you! I believe that you have done it, I believe that you have counted calories, I believe that you have only eaten protein or carbs, or whatever the diets required of you” (paraphrasing) I BELIEVE YOU! And it’s been so long since I last felt someone “believed me” … even when trying THM (Trim Healthy Mama, which I love) when I would come up to the wonderful groups where everyone is really, sincerely supportive and nice… I found that people would say “well, maybe you’re not doing this or that, well, maybe you are doing something wrong, maybe you’re eating too much of something, etc” … when I would go to doctors when I was eating low calories and exercising a lot they looked at me and smiled in disbelief and said “well eat less and exercise more!” … and for the first time… I found someone who said… “I believe you!” … Haylie doesn’t know me… personally (obviously) … but she knows I (and many others like me) exist! and she knows I (we) have really tried! she believes it… but there’s something else why diets don’t work even when test results come back from the doctor’s office saying that everything is “apparently normal” … So… because she believed me… I believe her! And I will do this as well… with everything I have! Sometimes I have doubts while doing this program… but I mostly doubt myself… Am I eating too much? And I go back to my meal maps that she put together… and I trust it and “Let it go” …. I weighed myself yesterday and I lost 2 pounds on my first week.. it’s not a lot but I am not stressing out… I am truly letting go and doing this thing! Hopefully my metabolism will get it!

Phase 3 I LOVE YOU!

Hello everyone! So… I have followed the “Fast Metabolism Diet” (FMD for short) Program for 4 days now… which means I’ve gone through Phase 1 (2 days of high -and healthy- carbs and fruit sugars, moderate protein, low *or non existent* fat) …. Phase 2 (2days of boring, headache inducing plain, lean protein *not even egg yolks!!* and unlimited vegetables, but not any vegetables just the least satisfying ones, not even cauliflower!!, zero carbs, zero fat, zero sugars) and today… today begins Phase 3 where your efforts are rewarded (LOL) where you tell your body “what? you thought you couldn’t eat fat? that’s not true, here goes some fat! No need to store any! keep losing!” so on phase 3 you get to eat protein (some fattier protein too like salmon, skinless but delicious chicken thighs, you also eat healthy grains, some kinds of delicious fruit, seeds and nuts and vegetables, you’re very liberal with some satisfying vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, etc… and on top of all that… avocado! up to 3/4 of an entire avocado, coconut oil, nut butters, etc.) can you tell I am excited? Ah! Today I am happy! And just ecstatic that Phase 3 last longer than the other 2, you have 3 full days to nurture your body with healthy fats and just tell your system “it’s ok, it’s ok to let go!”. Each phase is essential for the program and 1 can’t exist without the others … keeps your metabolism confused and it’s important to do exercises that are “phase appropriate” … so I did cardio on phase 1, strength training on phase 2 and I will be doing some dry skin brushing today, focusing on un-stressing and hopefully I will get hubby to give me a good long massage.

I sure sound hopeful… I know… and it’s because I really am! I really hope “this is it” .. I know I will give it my all as usual! I will have to follow this plan of repeating cycles of phases 1,2 and 3 for 28 months and then… repeat as needed! 🙂

So… this morning (phase 3) I had -for breakfast-

– 2 whole eggs cooked in coconut oil and seasoned with sea salt and nutritional yeast.

– 3 slices of avocado

– 1 Ezekiel bread English muffin (half of it with almond butter the other half with coconut butter)

– 1 cup of blueberries

– 1 sauteed zucchini.

How do  I feel? Amazing! 🙂

Cold again

Well… you have to be kidding me! LOL! 🙂 It is COLD, REALLY COLD again… freezing temperatures in this area of Texas are not common, especially not in March… but … oh well! I guess it is just a great opportunity to show determination and go out there and take my morning walk!

I am doing good with my eating… I haven’t lost more weight (well, just 0.2 pound… so… not even half a pound) but… again… I am amazed to be able to EAT and not gain weight… losing is even better! 🙂

Right now my very favorite healthy treat on Plan (Trim Healthy Mama) is my “ice-cream” … it’s not real ice cream but I LOVE IT! And I eat LOTS OF IT! … I just use frozen strawberries -cut into smaller pieces so the food processor can handle it (or a berry medley) in the food processor container (frozen just like that, not thawed) and process until I get them into a “snow” consistency… once the berries are like that I just add a splash of vanilla, some stevia drops, about 1/3 – 1/2 cup of 0% greek yogurt (I use FAGE) and some cocoa powder (about 1 tbsp. or a bit more) … If I need to add more protein I just add about 1/2 scoop of Jay Robbs (ultra expensive so I am switching to Swanson’s which is way more affordable) whey protein isolate (no sugar! YAY!) but the extra protein is optional… greek yogurt is already a great source of it, process it all together and Voila! My delicious “ice cream” is ready… I sooo love this healthy treat! I find it addicting!

It’s Pizza Time!

Hello everybody! I’ve been hanging in there… some days are better than others, some days are easier than others… but it’s mostly my attitude that makes it harder… It is just hard to have gained back so much that I had already lost … But crying about it will do nothing for me… I still cry though… LOL!

Anyway… Saturday night hubby decided to buy pizza… now… pizza is not on plan… and it’s not the cheese and toppings that THM (Trim Healthy Mama) worry about… it’s the bread… and it’s not that we can’t eat bread… but the whole thing about this plan is to try to keep your glycemic index at healthy levels… and pizza crust is just “too much bread” and not necessarily “the good kind” … and then… mixing all those carbs with the amount of fat from the cheese/meats is just too much!

So… instead of “giving in” I decided to invest some time and make my own “plan approved” pizza… “Fooled ya’ Pizza”… This pizza is made with a cauliflower based crust and I found it to be absolutely delicious… Now… the crust won’t really fool ANYBODY! It is NOT BREAD! or bread like! Don’t expect bread flavor or texture to magically come from cauliflower but it is SOOO YUMMY! And if you get your favorite toppings on top… you CAN fool yourself and your cravings and have that “satisfying feel” that pizza can give… but without the guilt!

So… it was my first try to attempt and it was easier than I thought… Hubby loved it too (even when he had already had his own pizza) – I think this recipe would also be “Paleo Diet approved”

I am sharing the recipe from the book because it’s already been shared in multiple blogs, forums and groups.

Here it is: (Disclaimer… if you’re a calorie counter THIS IS NOT a low-calorie dish)

Here’s the whole pizza with toppings right before putting it in the oven for the toppings to bake.

This is just the pizza crust once it’s been flipped and baked on both sides.

Fooled ya’ Pizza – Trim Healthy Mama

1. Lightly steam 1 (16oz) bag of frozen cauliflower. (I only had a head of fresh cauliflower and used that.)

2. Put lightly steamed cauliflower in colander and press out as much water as possible. (I used a big spoon to press it with.) The less water the crispier it will be. (Trust me… get ALL THE WATER out of that cauliflower… I can say this enough! Use paper towel if necessary)

3. Transfer cauliflower to a food processor and pulse a few times, NOT to much. You want rice-size pieces.

4. Add 3/4cup egg whites and pulse again a few times. (You can also just use 3 eggs. That’s what I did.)

5. Add 2 cups grated part skim mozzarella cheese, pinch of sea salt, dash or two of Italian seasoning, and a little onion or garlic powder to taste.

6. Mix ingredients together well with a spatula inside the food processor.

7. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper and grease parchment well (this is important or the crust will stick.).

8. Plop entire mixture onto the middle of the tray and start spreading it outwards with a spatula or with your hands until it covers most of the sheet. Try not to have a thicker middle than sides. (If you have a perfectionist husband like mine, you wont have to worry about that! He spent quite a bit of time fixing my spreading job. *smile*). Keep pressing until mixture almost touches the edges of the sheet. This crust is better thin, but don’t let the edges become wispy thin or they will get too dark when they cook (it puffs up a bit after cooking).

9. Bake at 450 for 20 minutes. (turn it over after 15 minutes to crisp the bottom. Flip it including the parchment paper, then remove the parchment paper).

10. Cool crust for several minutes before topping.  (Do not skip this step)

Once crust has cooled you can top it with pizza sauce, a little *Very little* more cheese (you don’t need much, since the crust already has it). Add any toppings you want and broil it in the oven until toppings are done.

You need to cut this pizza into smaller, rather than larger pieces. This makes it easier to hold them in your hand. Very large pieces are slightly droopy. Also if you don’t have a food processor you chop it to the “rice-size pieces” – I actually just mashed it with a potato masher while getting all the liquid out and it worked too!

Here and Now…

This eating healthy again is a “here and now” kind of thing.. Of course I have a set mind and a goal and I am planning ahead to EAT HEALTHY but at the same time I have to resist temptations as they happen and make decisions… HERE and NOW …

Yesterday… I didn’t bake anything for hubby… even when he called me to tell me that he had had some issues at work… he knows that whenever there’s something “wrong” I immediately bake something… and it did cross my mind but I didn’t know if I would be strong enough to bake and not eat… when he came home and didn’t see a dessert he was disappointed… didn’t complain… I guess he was just a bit shocked… so I whipped some chocolate-chocolate chip cookies … and when they were out of the oven he attacked them and ooo’d and aaaa’d over them … How is one supposed to resist that? Well… I guess by resisting it… period… Just say NO … here and now! That’s the hardest thing… but once you’ve done it you feel better! And that’s what I did… the temptation was there… the thoughts of “it’s just one cookie” and “I can burn it off” and “I’ve done pretty well today anyway” did cross my mind… but I shooed those thoughts away and had my cup of coffee without cookies and immediately felt stronger and proud! Rather than enjoy chocolate flavor in my mind for less than a minute loaded with guilt, despair and thoughts of failure… I enjoyed a clean mouth with lots of pride and a boost for my will power.

I am not saying each temptation will become a victory… I am just saying that IT CAN! and it did… at least for last night… and as I continue with my day today… I have that victory in my bag… and the memory of “how good it feels to be strong” to help me make my next tough choice!

Yesterday I managed to keep my calories at 1500 … after my “who knows how many thousands” calorie days I’d say I did pretty good… I’ll continue to work towards bringing that number to “my number” where I lose weight… My scale already showed a .4 pound loss … and I know it will keep going down!

Got fruit?

Hello everybody! Here I am again… just to share quickly about my weight and emotional state LOL! 🙂 After getting off of my soap box and once I stopped feeling sorry for myself (which unfortunately has been happening too often lately) I decided to be totally honest with myself and realize that I did some bad changes in my eating that would definitely affect my weight! I am not a victim… I hate the whole victim position so I refuse to “stay there” … Yes, it is true that I don’t lose weight like most people would if they are determined to do it… I do have thyroid issues and I gain weight faster than most people regardless of the meds… but I CAN lose weight, even if VERY slowly. I started to remind myself that I was seeing more consistent results with my weight when I incorporated more fruit in my diet and got rid of “low calorie” but “very processed” foods… So I am going back to the basics and eating way more fruit…

Right now I am enjoying 1/4 cup of organic strawberry yogurt (love Stonyfield), 1 apple, raw pecans, grapes and a few craisins every morning! It is sooo yummy!!! It is not a lot of yogurt but it is sooo satisfying and creamy! I feel like I am eating a dessert… almost like it’s too good to be ok for me to eat! LOL! 🙂 I am going back to my baked sweet potatoes as well… rather than rice and/or pasta… so… I am excited and in two days I lost 1/2 a pound…. the first day back to being really disciplined with my food I must admit I felt REALLY HUNGRY! My body was just asking for more food.. and something greasier if possible! LOL! but today it hasn’t been so hard.

Friday will be “Social Friday” for our Church Lifegroup and they’re already talking “Restaurants” … I will be looking the menu in advance to make sure I make all the right choices and still have a great time with everyone.
